In 1989 after completing my first year working as a doctor I joined the child protection team within the Department for Community Services in Western Australia. Together with the social workers already located  in the Goldfields I looked in detail at issues surrounding petrol sniffing among aboriginal teenagers in Warburton and the surrounding area.
